Physiotherapy for IVF Patients

 The benefits of physiotheapy have been proven to help increase health of the uterus and prepare for transfer during IVF treatments. Physiotherapy affects the peripheral blood flow by inducing arterial, venous and lymphatic flow throughout the body including in and out of the uterus.  It also increases the delivery of pharmacological agents to the end organ (uterus during IVF treatment.)  There are also some reports that show that Neuromuscular electrical stimulation and biofeedback therapy may improve endometrial growth for patients with thin endometrium during frozen-thawed embryo transfer treatments.

At the Crown Ivf Cyprus clinic we offer physiotherapy for patients that are undergoing Egg Donation treatments or a Frozen  embryo transfer.

Patients will undergo 3 x 30-40 minute physiotherapy sessions before their embryos transfer.  The first session is on the day which progesterone medication is started, the other 2 sessions following one day apart.  Patients who are undergoing physiotherapy will have Blastocyst (day 5) embryos transferred.

Each Physiotherapy treatment includes the following;

1- Hydrotherapy-Hotpack 20 minutes

2-Electrotherapy 30 minutes

3-Ultrasound:7 minutes

Hydrotherapy is used for this treatmenrt to increase the amount of blood flow to the area specific to treatment.  For this treatment we use a Hotpack for 20 minutes.

Electrotherapy is the application of electrical stimulation transmitted through the body via electrodes for therapeutic purpose. During the electrotherapy the currents flows through the body from one to another electrode and causes different physiological reactions .The type of the current ,selected parameters of the current and output intensity of the current determine the body reactions. During this treatment we use intelect legend XT*system for 30 minutes.

Ultrasound therapy uses sound waves generated through a transducer head to penetrate and reach the deep soft tissues. The sound waves cause microscopic vibrations in the deep tissue molecules, increasing heat and friction. The warming effect encourages healing in the soft tissues by increasing the metabolism at the level of the tissue cells.  Ultrasound is used for 7 minutes .
